Pinegrove and Mayo Win Matches
(Invitational Cricket Tourney)
Pinegrove boys outplayed the lads from the Lawrence School, Sanawar in the opening match of the 1st Invitational Under-13 Cricket Tournament being played at Pinegrove School, Dharampur, District Solan. Six teams of elite residential schools from across the country are competing for the coveted title. The tournament is being played on the basis of league-cum-knockout in T-20 format. The opening ceremony of the tournament was graced by Major General TPS Waraich (VSM), the Director, YPS, Mohali.
In the opening match, the host's team won the toss and elected to bat. They put up 158 runs on board for the loss of 2 wickets. Chasing the target the Lawrence School boys were all out at 90. Harshit of Pinegrove was declared ‘Player of the Match’. In another match played between Mayo College, Ajmer and APS, Dagshai, APS won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 72 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted overs. Mayo reached the target in just 6.3 overs at a loss of 2 wickets. Aahaan Aggarwal of Mayo won ‘Player of the Match’. In back to back matches played between Welham Boys and Pinegrove School, Welham boys put up 67 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. The host team the target in just 6.3 overs losing 2 wickets. Yerik Gauri of Pinegrove walked away with ‘Player of the Match’ award. In the last match of the day played between Mayo College and PPS Nabha, Mayo won the toss and chose to bat. They put up 60 runs at the loss of 2 wickets. PPS, Nabha achieved the target in 8.3 overs at the loss of 2 wickets. Mantaj Singh of the winning side got ‘Player of the Match’ award.
