If you are 40 plus, you need regular eye check–up
According to Dr Namita, change in near vision in 40 plus age is a normal thing, perhaps a person need glasses to see up close or may find it uneasy to adjust to glare or distinguishing some colours. She said, with age there is more risk of developing age-related eye diseases and conditions, which includes age-related macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, low vision and dry eye.
Dr Namita recommended everyone with 40 plus age should regularly visit an eye care professional for a comprehensive eye check up. There are so many eye diseases which have no early warning signs or symptoms, but a dilated exam can detect eye diseases in their early stages before vision loss occurs. Early detection and treatment can help a person saving his sight.
If you are a diabetic, your eyes need extra care
As told by Dr. Abiraj, Retina consultant at Abhinam Eye Care Centre "If you are a diabetic, than you must take extra care of your eyes, as diabetic eye disease is a complication of diabetes and a leading cause of blindness.” He shared that the most common form of diabetic eye disease is diabetic retinopathy which occurs when diabetes damages the tiny blood vessels inside the retina. He prescribed regular eye check-up for diabetic people. According to him, with a healthy life style one may minimise the chances of diabetic retinopathy, it is must to control blood sugar and cholesterol, to do regular work out, consume adequate fruits and vegetables & to avoid smoking and liquor consumption
Consult the doctor if you have dry eye syndrome symptoms
"If someone feels Burning sensation in eyes, Itchy eyes, Aching sensations, Heavy eyes, Fatigued eyes, Sore eyes, Dryness sensation, Red Eyes, Photophobia or Blurred vision, then probably Dry eye syndrome is the reason,” Dr Namita says. “But it is curable,” she added. Dr Namita shared that with the routine use of artificial tears and minor behavioural modifications one can significantly reduce dry eye symptoms.
