Rahul Gandhi demands the audit of the PM-CARES Fund, says make the records public
On Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded the Prime Minister to ensure the audit of donations made to the PM-CARES Fund. He said the record of the money received and spent should be made public.
"The PM Cares Fund has received huge contributions from PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) and major public utilities like the Railways. It's important that PM ensures the fund is audited and that the record of the money received and spent is available to the public," he tweeted.
His remark came after the reports of central government accumulating huge sum of money in the PM CARES fund set up to fight novel coronavirus and that the amount spent will not be audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
The CAG office has clarified since the fund is based on donations it has no right to audit a charitable foundation.
“Since the fund is based on donations of individuals and organizations, we have no right to audit the charitable organization," sources in the CAG offices had said.
